Message From The Pastor - Dr. Matt Thomas

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. - John 10.10
God calls us from all parts of the world and walks of life to enter the Kingdom of God. We at Ramona Avenue Christian Church see ourselves as a small part of the movement of God across the world and through time. We are a praying community, knowing that God listens and responds to the cries of God’s people. We rejoice regularly in the ways that God responds to our prayers in tangible ways. We take seriously the radical inclusiveness of Jesus’ ministry as a community that embraces all of God’s children, regardless of background or circumstance. We are an Open and Affirming congregation, grounded in the call of Jesus to abundant life and an open table. I am privileged to share the journey of faith with this portion of the Body of Christ. From teaching Hebrew to seminary students, to ministering in Central Europe, to working in the context of several different Christian denominations; I have been blessed by God with a wealth of varied experiences that have opened me to seeing God in all of life around us. I bring what I have been given to our worship and life together. My wife, Jenny, and I have three wonderful children: Anna, Isaiah, and Noah. We make quite a colorful bunch as Anna is adopted from Central Europe, Isaiah is adopted through the LA County Foster system, and Noah is homegrown.

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is our denominational home. It provides us with a home within the wider Body of Christ, accountability, support, and a rich history. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), founded on American soil in the early 1800s, continues to be influenced by its founding ideals of our unity in Christ with openness and diversity in practice and belief. It seeks to be a "movement for wholeness in a fragmented world." Disciples celebrate open Communion, welcoming all to Christ’s table.

For I am convinced that: neither death nor life, neither angels nor rulers, neither the present nor the future, nor powers; neither height nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the deep love of God which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. - Romans 8.38-39
